Praveen began learning piano at the tender age of 3 at Lin’s Music Studio in Brampton, Canada. He has learned from Dr. Khiet Lin, Ms. Amy Valyear, Mr. Lyle Brown, Mr. Jarred Dunn, and currently from Ms. Mary Turner. After moving to North Carolina in 2015, he completed his Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 8 examination with distinction under the tutelage of Mr. Jarred Dunn (https://www.mcgill.ca/music/jarred-dunn) and Ms. Mary Turner (Chapel Hill, NC; http://turnerpianostudio.com/biography.htm). In August of 2019, he completed his Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 10 examination with Honors under Ms. Mary Turner and is currently working towards an Associate Diploma (ARCT) in piano performance. Praveen has competed in local, district, and state competitions in North Carolina with much success, receiving numerous awards and performing at State Festivals.
Praveen regularly plays at local retirement homes and has volunteered in the Music and Mind Program at the Seymour Center Senior Home.
Amidst COVID-19, he has started teaching piano lessons to introductory and beginner level students in the Triangle area as well as in Canada over Skype. He has a growing passion for teaching and hopes to spread his love for music and the piano to as many people as possible.
Praveen has played the clarinet in his middle and high school band, receiving a gold rating in concert band in North Carolina Bandmasters Association (NCBA) in 2018 and many other awards in county and district band competitions.
In addition to his interest in Western Classical Music, he has also passionately been learning Indian Classical Vocal since the age of three. He built his vocal foundation under the guidance of Pon Suntharalingam in Toronto, and after moving to North Carolina, continued to nurture his passion under the tutelage of the late Srimathi Ranganayaki Rajan and currently under Thirupuvanam G. Athmanathan. He has participated in many workshops and performed at local festivals and cultural events. Having had the opportunity to learn both Western and Eastern Classical music, he has begun writing sheet music for community orchestral performances and has published these scores on MusicaNeo.
